Addressing UN Development Goals

Our commitment to sustainability aligns with several of the United Nations Development Goals:

  • SDG 3: Good health and well-being

We contribute to SDG 3 by delivering components to a range of industrial sectors that provide different health services. Our components are used in medical equipment such as hospital beds, imaging diagnostics and intensive care. For mobility and rehab, our components can be found in fitness equipment, prostheses and wheelchairs.

  • SDG 4: Quality education

With our suppliers, we deliver components for education in school and universities, as well as components that can contribute to facilitation of teaching.

  • SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation

By delivering components for water treatment plants, we contribute to SDG 6 for clean water and sanitation. Read an example where components we deliver have been used in water treatment plants here.

  • SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy

Our components are used in photovoltaic power stations/solar parks, and they contribute to durable energy.

  • SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Through our suppliers, we continually innovate in our product development processes, incorporating the latest advancements in technology and materials to create efficient and sustainable solutions.
We deliver components with long service life for example in factory automation such as compontents for packaging machines, food proscessing and gantry machines.

  • SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Our work contribute to sustainable cities and communities by, among other things, providing components for efficient and sustainable waste management equipment.

  • SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production

By focusing on durability and quality, we promote responsible consumption patterns and contribute to reducing waste generation. Moreover, our components are used in pawn machines and recycling, which is significant to achieve and maintain responsible consumtion and production.

  • SDG 13: Climate action

We contribute to SDG 13 by delivering components within sustainable electrification, for example in shore power supply, charging stations and passenger transport. We also offer lubrication-free plastic components, which is a better option for the environment. Read more about this here.

  • SDG 12: Life below water

Fish processing, aquaculture and fish farming are among industries we supply solutions to. One of our customers has used our components to build a robot that protects the oceans from contamination while washing and sandblasting surfaces of vessels and offshore platforms. Learn more about this project here.

  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Our collaborations with like-minded suppliers and engagement with the broader community underscore our commitment to building partnerships that drive sustainable development.

Sustainable components

– Motion plastics from our supplier igus®

Long service life

With great recistance against wear, corrosion and dirt, igus’ polymers have longer service life, and don’t have to be replaced often. We can also calculate our components service life.

Lighweight

Compared to steel, our plastic components are lighter, and therefore saves weight and energy. In an airplane, this amounts to about 4 kg if iglidur plain bearings are used insted of metal-rolled bearings, which again has a positiv impact on kerosene consumption¹.

Energy saving

Tribologically optimised polymers that have low friction and weight ensures that less drive energy has to be used to move a machine part in an application.

Replaceable parts

Instead of having to replace the entire application, our exchange bearings from igus conserves resources, which results in lower costs.

Biopolymers

igus has developed a standard plain bearing that can be used universally: iglidur N54. This bearing consists to 54% of renewable raw materials.
