Energy supply systems for offshore drilling equipment
igus® energy chains and cable systems are used for offshore and onshore drilling rigs, drilling vessels and platforms. They support applications such as top drives, cantilevers and pipe handling equipment, including long vertical travels and heavy cable packages.
The igus® e-loop energy chain system combines a plastic energy chain with a high-strength pull rope for controlled cable guidance and reliable strain relief. It provides an alternative to conventional hanging service loops.

Modular e-loop energy chain system
Combines the benefits of a plastic energy chain and a high-strength pull rope.

E4.1 series energy chain

Harnessed energy chain systems
Energy supply systems for pipe- and cable-laying vessels
Pipe-laying and cable-laying vessels require reliable cable management for heavy power, data and signal cables. igus® E4.1 and E4.350 energy chain systems are designed for demanding marine applications.
The E4.350 system is suitable for large, heavy and stiff cables and can handle loads of up to 650 kg/m. The E4.1 series provides a robust, modular and lightweight alternative to steel energy chains.

E4.350 e-chain system

E4.1 e-chain series
Robust and up to 70% lighter than steel solutions

RBR rotating energy supply
Rotation systems with up to 900 degrees rotation, easily integrated into the customer’s structure
Offshore components for corrosion-free, maintenance-free operation
In addition to energy chains and cables, ASI Automatikk supplies igus® drytech components for offshore applications, including maintenance-free plain bearings and lubrication-free linear technology.
These components are designed for environments where seawater, chemicals, corrosion and difficult maintenance access can make conventional lubricated components unsuitable.
iglidur® plain bearings
Maintenance-free iglidur® plain bearings are available for demanding offshore applications, including underwater and seawater environments.
Selected materials include:
- iglidur® H370 for underwater applications
- iglidur® J for low-wear applications
- iglidur® H for high environmental resistance
- iglidur® X for high-temperature applications
- iglidur® TX1 for high loads and seawater resistance
drylin® linear technology
drylin® linear technology combines stainless-steel components with lubrication-free tribo-polymers for applications where corrosion resistance and low maintenance are important.
Selected systems use stainless steel grades 1.4571 and 1.4301 and are designed for resistance to seawater and chemicals.

Offshore energy supply system case studies
ASI Automatikk has supplied energy supply and mechanical component solutions for offshore applications, including robotic drilling systems and environmentally friendly vessel surface treatment equipment.
These projects demonstrate how energy chains, cables, bearings and linear technology can be integrated into demanding offshore equipment.

Revolutionary system for automating offshore oil exploration
Components used: Readychain systems: RBR, energy chains and chainflex cables
The Norwegian company Robotic Drilling Systems has developed a robotic system for automating the drilling processes on the platform after many years of research and development work. Energy chains from igus ensure reliable energy supply under extreme conditions.

Environmentally friendly vessel surface cleaning concept with lubrication-free igus components
Components used: Plain bearings, linear guides and servo motor
Millions of tonnes of harmful substances from paints and varnishes end up in the oceans when operators maintain the surfaces of their vessels and offshore platforms with open-blasting methods. An environmentally friendly alternative: RoboCoat. With the help of the multi-functional robot from the Norwegian company Remotion, material residue is recycled. The lubrication-free linear guides and plain bearings from igus contribute to achieve this goal.
